Hudson River Park’s 10th Annual SUBMERGE Marine Science Festival
Saturday, September 30, on Pier 84

The New York Turtle & Tortoise Society booth (photo above by Angela Engstrom) attracted crowds, who both admired and learned about several New York State turtle species, which included an Eastern Painted Turtle, a Common Snapping Turtle, a Mud Turtle, a Diamondback Terrapin, and a Wood Turtle. Two exotic (non-native) species, a Burmese Brown Tortoise and an Alligator Snapping Turtle, were also on display.
Kudos go to Patty, who was our helper the festival organization lent us for a good part of the day. She was a great help.

Turtle Society members Lorri Cramer, Matt Hybel, Sara Ramos, Kathy Rumpler, Anita Salzberg, and Frank Schneider had a grand time interacting with kids, parents, and others who stopped by to ooh, ah, and enjoy the turtles on display.

The interactive SUBMERGE science festival aims to bring marine science to life. The River Project team and regional STEM experts came together to inform and excite the public about NYC’s coastal waters and wildlife. In addition to NYTTS, other festival participants included (among many others) the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York, the Shark Research Institute, Cornell University, and the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation—Hudson River Estuary Program.
